Mattress in the Hallway?!

She has been doing this since October.
4 out of 7 nights when I go up to check on Bella- this is what I find.
I am really not sure what to do here. I've asked her why she wants to sleep in the hallway. She said to be closer to us. She suggested that I should put her mattress in the hallway. I was hoping it would just be temporary, and she would realize that her bed was more comfortable. And it breaks my heart to see her covered up with a pillow case. (second picture) Therefore, I have agreed to let her put her nap mat at the top of the stairs. I know I should probably make her sleep in her bed. That is what a responsible parent would do. And I know she is really going to need to get in a good rhythm of good sleep before she starts Kindergarten in a few months. However, I remember as a child being so afraid of sleeping upstairs that I would sleep on a pallet besides my mom's bed every night.
What to do?!

I'm sure others will disagree with me... but I say enjoy it. She won't be wanting to sleep closer to you forever. It does get hard when three want to climb in your bed & so I do bribe my kids with reward points if they stay in their beds all night... but secretly I enjoy it if they come in my room in the middle of the night because of a bad dream.

I think you are a "SUPER" Mom! #1 thing is she feels safe and is sleeping. Most nights, I find Ollie on the floor or spiderman couch... hardly ever in the bed. Plus, I still remember sleeping at the top of the stairs (prob. till about 9yrs).... and I am none the worse for it ;-)

Well, Audrey is always brought into our bed in the middle of the night when she wakes up because we are both too tired to tackle that yet! So obviously I am not here to judge or give any stellar advice! :-) But when I was little, I wouldn't sleep in my bed either. My mom would wake up and almost step on me because I would be on the floor next to her bed. Or she would find me in the living room on the couch with the TV on static(that was when TV stations used to actually go off). Or she would find me in my brother's bed. Finally a co-worker asked her what it would hurt if I slept on the couch and my mom just kind of let me do that until I was ready to sleep in my bed again.
