I really got into Earth Day this year. Well, does really getting into something entail making a point to go up to HEB and turning in my plastic bags and having Bella turn in her plastic containers she gets out of the buddy buck machine? In addition to that, I had my children where "Earth Day" shirts. Brett does make fun of me regularly and thinks it is pretty nerdy to spend money to dress your child up for one day. I somewhat agree. But the shirts where $3.50 each at Walmart.
So along with Earth Day I have tried to become a little more educated on the environment, recycling, organic foods, baby care, and beauty care.
Thank you to Amy and Revekah for the encouragement by your health concerns. :)
At one time with Bella, I was almost was convinced to go with cloth diapers. I even tried it for a while. I just couldn't be disciplined enough about it. And it is gross... I don't care what people say. I do not like man handling poop. However, I have found today a perfect solution.

I ordered some... so we'll have to see how it works.
So I have decided I am going to take small steps to become more environmentally friendly. It can get so overwhelming, because there is so much out there. I truly believe you can make a religion out of almost anything. So, I want to remained balanced and educated from both spectrums. However, I am truly concerned with the amount of waste we create.

I am not sure how a tag works... but if you too would like to list the ways you try to be "green" or ways you want to become more "green"... please do... I'd love to read it.
8 Ways We Are "Green"
1. We recycle paper, plastic, and aluminum
2. We use reusable grocery bags
3. Drink fair trade coffee
4. Turn off lights when we leave a room
5. We use florescent light bulbs
6. Turn off the water while brushing our teeth
7. Instead of picking the kids up across town, B does that. I have to wait a few minutes longer to see the little guys, but it will be worth it.
8. We spring cleaned our closets and had a yard sale
5 Ways We Are Going To Try and Improve
1. Making sure the plastics that my children are drinking and eating out of are BPA
free * note: the bottles that I was using with Rowan were not
2. Feeding Rowan organic baby food... not 100% of the time but as much as possible right now (I found some coupons online)
3. Going to Paraben and Phthalate Free Baby Products; using less product all together. I usually squirt all kinds of baby wash into the bathtub to make it bubbly and smell good
4. Recycle Glass, Cereal Boxes, and Batteries - this is not as easy as the others because we have to drive them in somewhere
5. Plant a tree
My guilty wasteful pleasure is definitely paper towels! I use way too many. So I need to change that, but I am not yet committed.

good post, proud of you. and PS, it's revekah. yeah, well, it's okay.
I just switched to all BPA-free plastics, and found a ton of stuff for the girls at diapersetc.com. I also found Burt's Bees phthalate free bath products at Target. I even picked up some new shampoo, conditioner and body wash for me and Travis. It doesn't lather as well, but I think it makes my hair shinier. Good luck with your green effort!

Leslie-I am doing a combination of cloth diapers and disposables. I use Kushies flushable liners so I can just flush the bulk of the poo. Of course right now, her poo isn't bad because she's only on breastmilk. I know it will be different when she starts solids. Let me know how it goes with the Gdiapers! I wanted to try those but they are just too expensive to use in the long run. I also have a BPA-free bottle. It's the Adiri bottle. I looks cool too! I loved your post about being green...I may have to add something like that to my blog also!
Lesley-So sorry I spelled your name wrong in my last comment!
Good Post Lesley! I applaude your efforts!! If your ever thirsty my Baylor water bottle is never too far! =)
