13 years is something to be proud of

13 years of school is no easy task.
Roughly 2,000 days of school is a lot of days.

From connecting the dots,
to learning how to use a compass,
diagramming sentences,
reading and reporting on The Tempest,
figuring out a friend you can sit by at lunch,
trying not to forget your locker code
the homework
the pressure to try and not fumble the ball
or yell out the wrong cheers at tryouts.

In front of the whole school.

"Two bit, Three bits
Or shoot
Can I start over?"

No, I did not do that. I know a girl.

Oh, and lest we not forget will we
or won't we have a prom date.

Those days are fun, and hard, and confusing,
and everything in between.

There are some of us that get through those days seamlessly.
Full of confidence topped with humility.
A good sense of reality,
not taking it all too serious.
Looks to help the younger guys.
(He's even got cords around his robe to prove it.)
Tries hard, well, 90% of the time.
Unless, your asking for too much homework.
This guy... he loves his momma,
is wise beyond his years
and is willing to put his life on the line for you,
a stranger.

My nephew.
Couldn't be prouder.
